For the strongest Thai meal in Bangkok, book Sorn if you want Southern Thai seafood, R-Haan if you want a classic Thai dinner at two-star level, and Nusara if you want a view of Wat Pho with it. For the best value, go to Saneh Jaan or a Bib Gourmand kitchen such as Krua Apsorn.

Awards below come from the MICHELIN Guide Thailand 2026, announced on 27 November 2025, and the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026 list. All restaurants were listed on Michelin’s Bangkok pages on 6 November 2026, with no closure notice shown. Check hours before you go.

Quick comparison

Tasting menus worth the trip

Sorn focuses on seafood and ingredients from the South. It is one of only two three-star restaurants in Thailand, and Michelin puts it in its top price band. Dinner runs from 18:00 on Sunday to Friday, closed Saturday. It sits at 56 Soi Sukhumvit 26. Pick this for one big night if bold Southern flavours suit you.

Baan Tepa serves a seven-course Thai menu built on local produce and herbs from its own garden. It holds two stars and a Michelin Green Star, and it is at 561 Ramkhamhaeng Road, away from the main hotel districts. Allow for the drive. It opens Wednesday to Sunday.

Samrub Samrub Thai changes its tasting menu every two months, drawing on regional traditions such as Isan and Southern Thai. Michelin notes that bookings go through social media only, so sort this early. It is at 39/11 Soi Yommarat and closes on Sunday and Monday.

Le Du runs a rotating seasonal menu under chef Ton Thitid. It is at 399/3 Soi Si Lom 7, which makes it an easy choice from a Silom or Sathorn hotel. It closes on Sunday.

Classic Thai without the theatre

R-Haan blends traditional family-style dishes with modern technique. Michelin singles out a crab roe and yellow chilli dip. Dinner runs daily from 18:00 at 131 Soi Sukhumvit 53. The restaurant’s own site asks for smart casual, with no shorts, sportswear, sleeveless shirts or sandals, and takes walk-ins only at the bar.

Nahm at COMO Metropolitan is led by chef Pim Techmuanvivit, with a Heritage set menu Michelin recommends. It holds one star and opens daily from 18:00.

Bo.lan was new to the stars in the 2026 edition. It works with small farms and traditional recipes, and it also serves lunch from Friday to Sunday. It closes on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Old Town and Charoen Krung

Nusara at 336 Maha Rat Road offers refined Thai dishes and rooftop views of Wat Pho. Asia’s 50 Best ranks it No. 5 in Asia, while Michelin gives it one star. It pairs well with a day at the temples on our things to do in Bangkok page.

Aksorn sits on the fifth floor of Central: The Original Store at 1266 Charoenkrung Road. David Thompson revives mid-century Thai recipes as shared main courses. Michelin gave him its Mentor Chef Award in the 2026 edition. Its own site also describes a rooftop bar, so a drink before dinner is easy. For more options after dinner, see rooftop bars.

Better value, still recognised

Saneh Jaan at Sindhorn Tower on Wireless Road holds one star at Michelin’s ฿฿ price band. Lunch and dinner run daily. The signatures are crispy rice vermicelli with river prawn and a catfish dish with chilli, salted egg yolk and kaffir lime. If you want a starred Thai meal without committing a whole evening, this is the clearest choice.

Michelin’s Bib Gourmand marks high-quality food at exceptional value. These are the Thai ones to know, all on the current Bangkok list:

  • Krua Apsorn on Sam Sen Road: yellow curry with large prawns and crispy lotus root. Cash only.
  • Samlor at 1076 Charoen Krung Road: elevated dishes inspired by street food, with an omelette Michelin highlights. Closed Tuesday.
  • Thai Niyom at Mahatun Plaza: regional dishes from the North to the deep South. Closed Sunday and Monday.
  • Keawloon in Phra Khanong: family recipes from Nakhon Si Thammarat and Sukhothai with only two to three tables per service. New to the 2026 Bib list. Book ahead and bring cash.
  • Jaan at 9 Soi Chan 7: Southern Thai and Thai-Chinese cooking with fresh coconut milk. Also new in 2026.

How to choose

Choose one tasting menu per trip at most, then eat more simply on other nights. Thai food is built to share, so a group of four gets more from Aksorn or a Bib Gourmand table than from a fixed menu. Dinner at many starred places starts around 18:00, so a late afternoon at the hotel or on the river fits well. If the whole evening should be on the water instead, compare our Chao Phraya dinner cruise guide.

Questions people ask

What is the best Thai restaurant in Bangkok?

By awards, Sorn is the strongest case. It holds three stars in the MICHELIN Guide Thailand 2026 and ranks No. 12 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2026. Nusara ranks highest among Thai restaurants on the 50 Best list, at No. 5.

Is there a good Thai restaurant in Bangkok that is not a tasting menu?

Yes. Aksorn serves shared main courses and holds one MICHELIN star. Saneh Jaan also holds one star and sits in a lower price band. Krua Apsorn and Thai Niyom are Bib Gourmand picks with simpler formats.

Do I need to book Thai fine dining in Bangkok?

Plan on it. R-Haan accepts walk-ins only at the bar, and Keawloon has two to three tables per service. Book directly with the restaurant, since many of these places manage their own reservations.
