For most visitors, the best Bangkok night out starts on a rooftop at sunset, moves to a top cocktail bar, and ends in Thonglor if you still want to dance. Choose one area for the evening, because crossing the city by car at night takes time.

Bangkok has a very strong bar scene right now. Eight of its bars are in the top 50 of Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2026, more than any other city. This guide focuses on rooftops, cocktail bars and clubs. It does not cover adult entertainment.

The areas compared

Thonglor

Pick Thonglor if you want one area that does everything. Dry Wave Cocktail Studio is Bangkok’s highest-ranked bar, at No. 4 in Asia, and Octave gives you a 360-degree view from the Marriott on Soi 57 until 2 am. Silom and Sathorn

Pick this area for the classic rooftop night. Sky Bar is on the 64th floor of lebua, 247 metres up, from 4 pm to 1 am, and Distil shares the floor. The Standard’s Sky Beach in the Mahanakhon tower is a ticketed alternative, with last access at 11 pm. Moon Bar at Banyan Tree reopens on 2 December 2026.

Afterwards, Bar Sathorn sits in a historic mansion at W Bangkok, at No. 17 in Asia.

Riverside

Pick the river for a slower, dressier night, especially if you are staying there. BKK Social Club at Four Seasons is No. 20 in Asia and open daily from 5 pm to midnight. Across the water, ThreeSixty has an open-air bar on level 31 with a jazz lounge above it. SIN and SEEN at Avani+ Riverside are livelier, with DJs. A Chao Phraya dinner cruise also makes a good first half of the evening.

Siam and Ploenchit

Pick this area if you are staying centrally and want an easy night. Lennon’s, on the 30th floor of Rosewood, is No. 7 in Asia and known for its 6,000 vinyl records. Red Sky opens at 4 pm on the 56th floor above CentralWorld. Aqua Bar at Anantara Siam is a garden bar with resident DJs later on, and it is a new entry on the list at No. 48. Penthouse Bar + Grill has live jazz on selected nights.

Sukhumvit

Pick Sukhumvit for a busier scene near the BTS. Above Eleven on Soi 11 runs until 2 am with resident DJs, and Levels nearby opens at 10 pm. Tichuca is further east on Soi 40, with free entry and walk-ins only. Sky on 20 is the value option, with a happy hour from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Chinatown and RCA

Chinatown is the best area to combine dinner and drinks. Opium, at No. 25 in Asia, sits on the top floors of an old shophouse above the restaurant Potong. See street food in Bangkok for where to eat first.

RCA is different. Royal City Avenue is a strip of large clubs such as Route 66, so go with a group. It is a taxi ride away, so go for the clubs rather than for a walk.

A simple plan

3. Late: Move to a club only if you really want to. Most evenings end better at a good bar.

What to know

• Closing time: The general rule has been 2 am. Resident Advisor reported in December 2023 that approved venues in designated zones, naming Silom, Patpong and Ratchadapisek, could stay open to 4 am. We could not confirm a current official list, so check with the venue.
• Age: Many venues admit guests aged 20 and over. Lennon’s and BKK Social Club state this directly. Bring your original passport.
• Dress: Closed shoes and a collared shirt pass nearly everywhere.
• Cost: Hotel bars often add service and tax to listed prices. Check the menu.
• Transport: Use the BTS early in the evening, then a ride-hailing app or a hotel car. Watch your drink and agree on any table charge before you sit down.
